flow creative arts therapy
“In order for us to effectively change this world, we are going to have to change the way we relate to each other as human beings.”
why do we create?
There is an African proverb that says, “If you can walk, you can dance. If you can talk, you can sing.” As African people we are bearers of a vibrant, expressive culture. And, as the proverb teaches us, we sing, dance, act, paint, draw, photo-graph, write & recite, sculpt, and crack jokes to express what we are going through. Our healing traditions reflect our culture too, because our healing has always been creative and dynamic.
Art can do what standard talk therapy alone cannot; It taps into a much deeper part of ourselves. As human beings, our creativity is one of our greatest resources. By tapping into our creativity, it can help us navigate challenging circumstances and process our difficult emotions. Through the creative process, we may find that we are able to make sense of things that once felt overwhelming.
If today feel too hard to deal with, then let’s create a better tomorrow.

What to expect
Flow Creative Arts Therapy is here to support Black folks struggling with anxiety, depression and grief. Flow clients tend to be deep thinkers and spiritual seekers with a need to express themselves creatively. The Flow method has helped clients work through major life transitions, racial traumatic stress, grief & loss, difficulties in relationships, and in processing complex PTSD, among other issues.
Our approach to making art is mindfulness-based and process-oriented. In Art Therapy sessions we focus on process over product. What matters most here is the making, how it feels in your body to make art.
