why creative arts therapy ?

Some things can be difficult to put into words. Art bypasses language. It taps into a much deeper part of ourselves. If you are looking to explore your inner world in a way that words do not fully describe, Art Therapy may be right for you.

Creating artwork can help us navigate challenging circumstances. Through the pre-verbal language of Art you may find that you are able to make sense of things that have at times felt overwhelming. We can make art to process our difficult emotions.

Our approach to making art is mindfulness-based and process-oriented. In Art Therapy sessions we focus on process over product. This means we won’t concern ourselves with how beautiful the finished art product will look, but rather we use time in session together to dive into the artistic process. This is the major distinction between a session and an art class. What matters most here is the making, how it feels in your body to make art.

Flow will be there alongside you each step of the way, supporting you in your process of self-discovery.

What to expect

Flow Creative Arts Therapy is here to support folks struggling with anxiety, depression and grief. Flow clients tend to be deep thinkers and spiritual seekers who need to express themselves creatively. The Flow method has helped clients work through major life transitions, racial traumatic stress, grief & loss, difficulties in relationships, and in processing complex PTSD, among other issues.

The therapeutic approach that we use is Psychodynamic with an emphasis on creative inquiry. Our specialty is infusing Art Therapy with Buddhist Psychology, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Polyvagal Theory. The therapeutic work is informed by the latest scientific research, particularly in the fields of psychology and neuroscience. Because "the body keeps the score", we incorporate somatic practices such as EFT (tapping) into therapy.
